A mother is heartbroken after losing her’mermaid’ infant mere minutes after giving birth.
The unidentified infant, whose Sєx was unknown due to its fused legs and’missing genitals,’ had sirenomelia, also known as’mermaid syndrome,’ which has no known cause. Disksha Kamble, age 25, gave birth naturally at a government-run facility in Beed, Maharashtra, western India, on Monday morning.
Mrs. Kamble had only one ultrasound during her eight-month pregnancy, so she did not discover the baby’s condition until she first saw it after birth. Her 32-year-old spouse, a daily-wage laborer, stated, “My wife and I are devastated by the loss of our child.” We’ve never seen or encountered an infant like this before.
Mermaid syndrome is believed to influence between 1 in 60,000 and 1 in 100,000 births

Sirenomelia, also known as mermaid syndrome, is an extremely uncommon disorder characterized by partial or total leg fusion.
It affects between one in 60,000 and one in 100,000 births. Patients may also experience gastrointestinal complications and underdeveloped or absent kidneys. Its cause is undetermined. Mrs. Kamble and her husband arrived at the hospital early Monday morning after experiencing labor symptoms. Three years ago, the couple lost a child, but they have since had a healthy daughter. The hospital’s gynecologist, Dr. Sanjay Bansode, was stunned to discover the baby weighed only 3.19 pounds and had ‘fins’.
He stated, “This is an extremely uncommon condition.” The mother had arrived at the hospital at 7 a.m., and by 9 a.m., she had given birth naturally.We expected a cranium or legs, but instead a strange “fin-like” mᴀss emerged.Everyone was stunned upon seeing the infant. My pupils had never witnessed anything similar.In addition to having fused legs and absent genitalia, the infant also had internal anomalies such as renal and pulmonary malformations. ‘The infant could not endure for longer than fifteen minutes.
Dr. Sanjay Bansode, a gynecologist, stated that it could not endure for more than 15 minutes.
This is because the infant has “internal anomalies such as renal and pulmonary malformations,” he explained.

Mr. Kamble stated, “When I saw my child for the first time after its birth, I was shocked to see that it had no legs.” It was very small and had fused appendages.We are daily wage laborers who manage to make ends meet.After the loss of our first child within a day of birth, we underwent ultrasounds during our second pregnancy, but only once.
